The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra Society will announce the group’s new artistic director during its annual Gala Fundraising Dinner Saturday, April 30, in Keauhou.

The 4-8 p.m event, featuring wine, pupu, dinner by Chef Arthur of the Keauhou Kona Yacht Club and dessert, as well as a silent auction and entertainment by members of the orchestra, will be held at a private home in Kona Plantation Estates.

A string quartet (including Magic Strings Ensemble leader and KPO Concertmaster Ursula Vietze on violin) and a woodwind quintet, both made up of Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra players, will perform as libations are served. The orchestra, which has grown from 14 string players in 2004 to a 51-member group with woodwinds, brass, percussion, and harp at its last concert, works to promote local music education and introduce its music to more diverse audiences.

The announcement of a new artistic director follows a “Season of Change” that saw three candidates (David MacKenzie, Harvey Felder, and Brian Dollinger) vying for the position.

Tickets for the event are $100.00 per person and can be purchased at KamuelaPhil.org.
